The automotive supply chain is getting increasingly complex. It is more imperative than ever for automotive suppliers to demonstrate to manufacturers that they are capable of anticipating, managing and safely navigating industry changes while still maintaining reliable industrial processes to fulfill the quality and satisfaction expected by customers.
Previously, ISO/TS 16949:2009 was the certification car manufacturers obtained to show their adequate ability to maturely and reliably adapt to changing industry processes. However, in September of 2015, the decision was made to upgrade and replace the ISO/TS 16949:2009 certification with the AITF 16949:2016 certification. As of October 2018, all car manufacturers are required to have IATF 16949:2016 certification. The new certification will replace the ISO/TS 16949:2009 which will no longer be valid.
Bureau Veritas offers automobile manufacturers resources to help them obtain IATF 16949:2016 certification. The IATF
certification through Bureau Veritas includes:
• Certification and audit against current automotive manufacturing standards
• Digital Tools to help those with automotive supply chain processes be prepared for IAFT 16949:2016 standards and to make necessary changes and improvements to meet such standards
• A customized audit program for automotive manufacturing suppliers
What is IATF 16949:2016?
The IATF 16949:2016 was published by the International Automotive Task Force in October 2016. Replacing the ISO/TS 16949:2009, it is the only worldwide recognized standard that relates to the quality control and management in the automotive manufacturing industry. It is applicable to any organization active in the automotive supply chain.

The IATF 16949:2016 Transition Stage
Automobile manufacturers will be given time to transition from ISO/TS 16949:2009 to IATF 16949:2016. The deadline to obtain the IATF 16949:2016 is September 14, 2018, after which the ISO/TS 16949:2009 will no longer be valid.
The transition stage is the grace period during which automobile manufacturers are to make all the necessary changes and upgrades needed to meet the requirements for IATF 16949:2016. During this stage, the ISO/TS 16949:2009 will remain valid so as to keep automobile manufacturers in current industry compliance.
