Overpressure & Flaring Systems Integrity

Business Challenge

Overpressure protection and loading network is one of the critical challenges faced by the Oil & Gas and chemical industries. Whether it is a new facility or an aging one, integrity management of overpressure and flaring systems remains significant throughout the life of the plant. It is imperative for industry operators to understand how safe and reliable overpressure protection and flaring systems are at any given time.

Solution

Bureau Veritas utilizes engineers to ensure the integrity of the operating company’s overpressure, venting and flaring system are in accordance with various measures. Our engineers:

  • Evaluate all equipment for overpressure protection adhering to API 521 and ASME.
  • Evaluate flaring system adhering to API 521, API 537 and API 931.
  • Identify and assess potential overloading for existing pressure relief and flare systems.
  • Identify and assess potential scenarios that can result in case of failure of systems put on demand (e.g.: loss of containment, flare-out etc.) .
  • Identify and assess the need for additional safeguards (e.g.: Safety Instrumented Functions, additional depressurization).
  • Identify potential bottlenecks in the system and recommend actions (Reliability & Availability issues).

Why Choose Bureau Veritas?

With a worldwide network of offices, Bureau Veritas can provide integrity evaluation of Overpressure & Flaring systems services across the globe. Bureau Veritas engineers have access to advanced technology via Technical Centers, which enables them to analyze problem situations and develop appropriate solutions.

Bureau Veritas incorporates data from its own intranet to ensure that all studies are delivered using consistent data and assumptions. Advanced technical methods are utilized for this analysis. Furthermore, Bureau Veritas' subject specialists are trained to use specific software tools when needed.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Flare Radiation Study?

Determination of the levels of thermal radiation emitted from flares is important in facility design. This information is used to site flares and to establish flare stack heights in order to ensure that workers and equipment are protected. This information is also utilized for air dispersion modeling in order to assess the impact to air quality from combustion byproducts released from operating flares. Usually such effects are assessed based on worst case scenario, i.e., flare operating at full load.
