Minimizing the enviromental and economic impact of construction
Download the service sheet in PDF
| Because the environment, human health, and economy are
greatly impacted by the built environment, many private and public
organizations are implementing green building programs. Green building
programs reduce energy consumption, maintenance and capital costs,
environmental impact, and increase occupant comfort and health. Green
building programs reflect a heightened social accountability in today’s
world. Green building takes numerous considerations into account
simultaneously and consciously. From the lot design, preparation, and
development to the global impact, every aspect of the building process
is considered when planning a green project. |
|
| When implementing green building programs, it is a
challenge to know which pieces to select to complete the puzzle. Public
and private clients are very aware of the goal, but can benefit from a
consultant to help guide them through their options. Additionally,
verification by an approved third party is often required. |

ENERGY STAR® is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices. The ENERGY STAR® program is a step above the basic energy code compliance and is required in some municipalities. For a home to be labeled as ENERGY STAR,® an independent rater reviews the construction plans and generates a report to ensure the home meets the energy savings requirements. During the construction of the home, the rater will verify the materials and equipment and perform testing. Once the home passes the inspection and testing it is labeled as ENERGY STAR.®
