Where we come from...
Bureau Veritas was founded in Antwerp, Belgium in 1828, the Information Office for Maritime Insurance had a simple mission: to give shipping underwriters up-to-date information on premiums in use at commercial centers and provide precise information on the state of ships and equipment.
In 1829, the company was renamed Bureau Veritas, adopted the emblem of Truth as its official logo and edited its first Register of some 10,000 ships. In 1833 the head office transferred from Antwerp, where a branch office was set up in 1830, to Paris.
The company went from strength to strength, expanding into new areas such as “Control of Materials", for iron and steel inspection in the burgeoning railway industry, as well as inspecting factory equipment. In 1922, the French government entrusted Bureau Veritas with the official control of airworthiness certificates for civil aircraft. Nor was the automobile industry neglected: Bureau Veritas created a service to check buses, coaches and trucks in 1927.
Bureau Veritas Laboratories
Bureau Veritas Laboratories was formed by the acquisition of two industry leaders: Clayton Group Services and NATLSCO. We have been providing services to the health and safety industry for more than 50 years. When the American Industrial Hygiene Association first introduced the Laboratory Accreditation Programs in 1974 (AIHA-LAP, LLC), we were a part of the first group of laboratories to become accredited, and have maintained accreditation ever since. We have since added the environmental lead program in 1992 and the environmental microbiology program in 2003.
Our laboratories have grown steadily with the increased changes and regulatory requirements of our market. Today, we continue to adapt to changes in our market, adding new services and technology as it becomes available.
Leading the way
A strong organic growth and more than 50 acquisitions in the past ten years have made Bureau Veritas into a leader in our market and has given us a broad and unrivaled expertise in QHSE management issues.
We would like to share our expertise with you.
