Bureau Veritas in the UK has been appointed by Skanska to provide an onsite material testing laboratory to support them on their Weymouth Relief Road contract. This appointment follows on from the successful management and delivery of the materials testing facility based on the A2 Pepperhill to Cobham Widening Scheme, which was recently completed by Skanska.

 

The Weymouth laboratory team are providing quality control services, such as routine sampling and testing of earthworks, concrete and bituminous material, to demonstrate that all of the works meet the specification requirements of a large scale road project.  In addition, the site laboratory team are supported by the 'off site' network of Bureau Veritas laboratories and offices for any specialist testing and consulting requirements, such as large scale shear boxes, ecology and air monitoring, etc, should there be a requirement for these services.

Our onsite team worked very well with the Skanska site agents and engineers on the A2 project so, on this contract, we established onsite accommodation at the start to enable these established teams to work together again. As a result of this close working relationship, there is a high level of confidence and understanding of what Skanska require to deliver the project. Ultimately our role is to support the Skanska site teams by providing a reliable, efficient and approachable testing service.''

 

The Weymouth Relief Road scheme is designed to relieve congestion along both the A354 from Weymouth-Dorchester and the A353 to the east, the road will be one of Dorset's biggest-ever capital construction projects. Construction work commenced in September 2008 and is expected to be complete in Spring 2011.
