ChemoAlert - Surface Contamination Kit
ChemoAlert™ is a custom kit designed to collect chemotherapy drug residues on non-porous surfaces in healthcare workspaces. Developed in response to USP Chapter <797> housekeeping standards, proposed USP Chapter <800>, and the NIOSH Drug Alert for safeguarding healthcare workers, ChemoAlert™ can be used to test for 45 compounds.
For health care workers who are exposed to antineoplastic agents as part of their work practice, precautions should be taken to eliminate or reduce exposure as much as possible. Pharmacists who prepare these drugs or nurses who may prepare and/or administer them are the two occupational groups who have the highest potential exposure to antineoplastic agents.
Healthcare professionals can use ChemoAlert™ to evaluate contact exposure to the antineoplastic agents with which they are working. A number of studies have documented environmental and worker exposure by measuring these drugs and/or their metabolites in the urine of health care workers.
